About Sinhala Font Style
Last updated: September 2026Sinhala Font Style is a free online tool for previewing, customising and downloading Sinhala typefaces. It was built to solve a specific, recurring problem for Sinhala designers, students and content creators: there was no fast way to compare dozens of Sinhala fonts side by side without installing each one first.
The Problem We Set Out to Solve
Sinhala typography has an unusual technical history. Many of the most widely used legacy fonts β including classics such as FM Abhaya and Iskoola Pota β were built on non-standard, font-specific character encodings rather than Unicode. That means Sinhala text typed normally on a keyboard often renders as garbled symbols in these fonts unless it is first converted into the exact encoding each font expects. Testing a single font used to mean downloading it, installing it locally, opening a design tool, retyping or converting your sample text, and only then seeing whether it actually looked right. Multiply that across dozens of fonts and it became a genuinely time-consuming task.
We built a Unicode-to-legacy-encoding converter that runs directly in the browser, so any Sinhala text you type is automatically reshaped into the correct encoding for whichever legacy font you're previewing. Modern Unicode fonts are rendered as-is. The result is that you can type one sentence once and instantly see it rendered correctly across every font in the library.
How the Preview Tool Works
- Type once, preview everywhere: enter your Sinhala text and it renders live across every font in the library, updating as you type.
- Automatic encoding conversion: legacy, non-Unicode fonts are handled transparently, so you don't need to know which encoding a font uses.
- Style controls: adjust text colour, background colour, font size and alignment, with the preview updating in real time.
- PNG export: download a high-resolution image of your styled text with a white or transparent background, useful for social posts, thumbnails and mockups.
- Direct font downloads: download the original TTF file for any font to install and use locally.
- Search and browse: find a specific font by name, or browse the full, paginated collection.
Font Sourcing and Licensing
Every font listed on this site is either released under a free/open license by its original creator or has been widely distributed as freeware for personal and commercial use in the Sinhala design community. Where we know the original foundry or designer, we credit them on the font's page. If you are a font creator and believe your work is listed incorrectly, or you'd like a licensing note corrected or removed, please contact us and we'll act on it promptly.
Who Runs This Site
Sinhala Font Style is run by a small, independent team working on Sinhala-language digital tools. We are not affiliated with any font foundry, and we don't claim ownership over the fonts we host previews for β our work is the preview and conversion engine itself, built and maintained in-house.
Our Content Policy
We only publish original tooling and original descriptive content that we've written ourselves. Font metadata (name, style, origin) is factual and sourced from the font files and their public release notes. We do not accept paid placements that misrepresent a font's license or origin, and we correct factual errors as soon as they're reported.
